Nicole Piccolomini
In the 2009-010 season, American mezzo soprano Nicole Piccolomini makes her debut with the Opéra national de Paris as Flosshilde in Das Rheingold and returns to the company later in the season for Grimgerde in Die Walküre.and will return to the company in coming seasons for Erste Norn and Flosshilde in Götterdämmerung. She also debuts with the Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Maddalena in Rigoletto and returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for the same role in addition to singing Erste Magd in Elektra in Toulouse. In the 2008-09 season, she returned to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for repeat performances of Maddalena in Rigoletto, Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte, Erste Magd in Elektra, and Rosalia in Tiefland in addition to singing Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos, Gräfin von Coigny in Andrea Chenier, and La Marquise de Langlade in Marie Victoire. She also joined the Bayerische Staatsoper for further performances of Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos and with Opera de Oviedo, she sang Musetta in Leoncavallo’s La Bohème.
The mezzo-soprano recently joined the Spoleto Festival in Italy for the title role of Roussel’s Padmâvatî and Gotham Chamber Opera for the title role in Piazzolla’s Maria de Buenos Aires. She has a strong relationship with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, having previously joined the company for roles that include Fenena in Nabucco, Erste Norn and Flosshilde in Götterdämmerung, Federica in Luisa Miller, and Flosshilde in Das Rheingold.
In previous seasons, she also joined Opera Theatre of Saint Louis for Maddalena in Rigoletto, a role she also sang with Opera Delaware. While at the Academy of Vocal Arts, she sang a number of roles including both Erda and Flosshilde in Das Rheingold, further performances of Maddalena in Rigoletto, and Dritte Dame in Die Zauberflöte.
Equally active on the concert stage, she joined the New York City Ballet as the soloist in Leonid Desyatnikov’s Russian Seasons in Saratoga Springs. She also joined the Bermuda Philharmonic for Handel’s Messiah, New Jersey Opera Theatre for a concert of opera favorites, and the Academy of Vocal Arts Orchestra for Verdi’s Requiem.
She is a 2010 grant recipient from the William Matheus Sullivan Foundation and has also previously received the Curt Engelhorn Scholarship from the American Berlin Opera Foundation.In addition to her studies at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, she holds a Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School and has participated in the young artist programs of both the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and the Caramoor Music Festival.
